Behind the scenes: the story of our recent hiatus

This blog is different than normal, at least for us. You may or may not have noticed, but this year has been a bit crazy for Leann and me personally. If that doesn’t interest you, feel free to skip this particular blog. But if you’re interested in a short personal update and some business-related reflections, feel free to read on.

If you’re an avid fan and email subscriber, you may have noticed it’s been a few weeks since we’ve sent out our regular weekly email. In fact, we missed over a month of blogs and email newsletters. This was not planned, and definitely not because we don’t care about you guys. We love you!

One of the reasons our clients hire us is to help them establish consistency in their marketing and digital content. Ironically, we occasionally have to sacrifice consistency in our own marketing to ensure we remain consistent for our clients. This year has been particularly challenging, and I want to share why.

I’ve been dealing with some sleep-related health issues that took months to figure out. Thankfully, I’m doing much, much better now. But just as we were getting a handle on that, life threw us another curveball.

Several weeks ago, Leann’s dad called to let us know her mom was in the ER. A few days later, she passed away. While her health had been declining over the last year, it still came as a bit of a shock. My father-in-law asked me to conduct the funeral. Although I’ve been preaching a lot this year and have led parts of funerals before, this was my first time conducting an entire funeral. It was an honor, but it was also a significant amount of pressure.

This meant that Leann and I were unexpectedly off work for about two weeks. During this time, our incredible team, especially Michela Owen and Sara Payne, stepped up and held down the fort. I am super thankful for them and all that they did!

We’ve recently been able to catch up on our blogs, but once you’ve missed email newsletters, you’ve just missed them. Below, you’ll find a list of our recent blogs to help you catch up on anything you might have missed.

I deeply appreciate the thoughts and prayers from everyone who knew what was going on. I also appreciate the patience of our clients (we work with awesome clients) and the unwavering support from our team during this challenging time.

This experience has put into perspective the importance of relationships, balance, and family. These are not just words; they are values we live by at Backslash Creative. We’re back on track with our own blogs, but I hope this story encourages you to prioritize relationships and balance in your own lives as well.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We appreciate all of you guys!
