There’s a lot of talk these days about SEO and how it can help your business generate leads. But what does that really mean? How does SEO actually work to bring in leads? It’s not as simple as putting a few keywords into your website and calling it a day – you also need to have clear calls to action (CTAs) that appeal to searchers, and you need to write content that appeals to your ideal prospects.
Let’s take a look at how SEO works hand-in-hand with lead capture to bring in more business for your company!
What is the purpose of SEO?
The purpose of SEO is usually to attract more visitors to your website – specifically, visitors who are looking for what you have to offer. To do that, you need to make sure your site appears as high up in the search engine results pages (SERPs) as possible.
But while getting people to visit your site is important, it’s not the only thing you need to worry about. That’s where a Call To Action comes in.
Why having a CTA is important
Once visitors are on your site, you also need to make sure they take some kind of action – filling out a form, signing up for a newsletter, or even giving you a call.
Enter something we marketing nerds call a CTA. Your CTA should be clear, concise, and easy to find. It should be relevant to the page visitors are on, and it should be something that appeals to them. For example, if you’re a B-to-B company selling high-end software packages, your CTA might be something like “Request a free demo today!”
If you don’t have a CTA or if your CTA is ineffective, all the SEO in the world isn’t going to generate leads for your business.
Defining your target market
Before you can start generating leads, you need to know your target market. This might seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many companies don’t take the time to really define their target market or ideal prospect.
You need to get specific here. Who are they? What do they do? Where do they live? What are their interests? The more specific you can get, the better. Both demographics and psychographics are important.
Once you have a good idea of who your target market is, you can start creating SEO content that appeals to them. Usually, blogs are a big part of that. You can also customize your CTA to better fit what they would be motivated by.
Other reasons for SEO
It may surprise you to learn that most of our clients don’t use SEO to actually generate leads. SEO can also help support salespeople who are generating their own leads. By improving your SEO, you can make it easier for potential customers to find your site, and that can help you close more deals. Plus, good SEO can help keep your site high up in the search engine results pages, so you’ll always be one step ahead of the competition.
