Blogging on your website is great for proving your expertise, driving traffic to your website, and generally just making prospects comfortable with you before they contact you for the first time.

But could you be making more use of your blog by looking at your analytics?

Google Analytics is a great free service that lets you gather statistics about your website. Specifically, it can be used to determine which of your blog articles are the most popular, and add a stronger call to action to the end of those blogs.

Step 1 – Find popular articles

Log into Google Analytics. Navigate to Behavior > Site Content > All Pages. While it lists all pages by default, you can narrow it down by searching.

For example, a blog on our website might be in the format /2015/07/effective-blog-google-analytics. If that’s the case, we can get all the blogs from the 2010’s by searching for “201”

Step 2 – Determine business use

Take a look at the most popular blog articles. Which of those somehow tie into a service, offering, or even free download you’d like to promote?

Some examples could include:

  • Following you on a specific social media platform
  • Sign up for your email newsletter
  • Download an ebook (in the best case, one somewhat related to the blog topic)
  • Call or email if they need help with whatever the blog article talked about.

Step 3 – Add call to action

Add the stronger call to action to your website. Generally, you’ll be able to do that on your own by simply editing the blog article and adding to the end of the article using text, links, and/or images.

But in some cases, you may want to get in touch with your web company to get their assistance.

What are you waiting for? A little work, and you can use your blog more effectively with Google Analytics.
