We’ve used Mailchimp for years and are huge fans. While it’s not a good fit for every situation, it tends to be easy to use, easy to understand, quick, efficient, and affordable for most organizations.

Let’s take a look at what I think are the best Mailchimp features.

Feature 1: Scheduling emails

This sounds like a no-brainer, but the ability to schedule your email for some time in the future is a huge time saver! You do need a paid account to get this feature, but it’s invaluable.

Feature 2: Sending emails to a segment

Imagine this scenario: you make a mistake in the timing of an email by sending one out that links to a blog you haven’t actually published yet. You catch your mistake, but only after ten people have attempted to click on the link. No worries! You can publish the blog, then send a correction email only to the segment of subscribers that already tried to click on the link in the first email!

Feature 3: Automatic list cleaning

Are you worried about people counting as subscribers when their email address no longer works? Don’t stress! Unlike some other leading email marketing platforms, Mailchimp will automatically keep your list clean for you, removing email addresses that hard bounce.

Feature 4: Email client compatibility

While there are only a handful of web browsers we have to worry about when designing websites, there are dozens and dozens of email clients like Gmail, Outlook, etc. While researching this article, one audience I checked in Mailchimp had 24 different email clients used by subscribers! Thankfully, Mailchimp’s email builder generates code that works well on most, if not all, of those email clients.

Feature 5: Merge tags

Want more people to read and interact with your emails? One way you can do that is to include their first name in the email or subject when appropriate using merge tags. If you overdo it, it won’t be quite as effective, but if you do it every once in a while, it can really help.

There may be other Mailchimp features you like more. If that’s the case, let us know! Or, if you need professional help with Mailchimp, feel free to reach out and see if we are a good fit for you.
