How to use LinkedIn for marketing

If LinkedIn is a good fit for your organization’s goals, it can be a great marketing tool. I often talk to people at businesses and nonprofits who think they should be spending more time on LinkedIn, but don’t know that to do.

Here are 40 things you can do to use LinkedIn for marketing.

Personal LinkedIn activities

Work on your profile

  1. Add a recent professional profile photo
  2. Add a cover photo
  3. Customize your headline
  4. Enter all your contact information
  5. Customize your About section
  6. Customize your profile’s URL
  7. Fill out other details of your profile (past positions, educations, skills, etc.)

Share helpful content

  1. Share articles other people have written that pertain to your target audience
  2. Share articles you wrote on other websites (i.e. your company blog)
  3. Write articles directly on LinkedIn
  4. Create and share a video
  5. Create and share an image (consider using a free tool to create an infographic)
  6. Schedule updates monthly using a tool like Hootsuite or Buffer

Connect with others

  1. Connect with LinkedIn suggestions
  2. Sync address book and connect
  3. Go through business cards you’ve collected and connect
  4. Share your URL on other social platforms
  5. Respond to invitation requests

Interact with others

  1. Message people who viewed your profile
  2. Recommend someone
  3. Ask for a recommendation
  4. Ask someone to meet (in person, via Zoom, or something similar)

Work on your page
