Staff reactions to our 2016 survey

Last week, we released an infographic sharing what we learned in our 2016 Email Newsletter Subscriber Survey.

Now, of course Holly did a great job with the infographic. But if you tend to be a words person (like yours truly) or you just want to know what we thought about the results of our 2016 Email Newsletter Subscriber Survey, this one’s for you!

Tim Priebe

I was a little surprised that LinkedIn wasn’t something more people are interested in. It was number three out of the platforms, but I thought it might rank even higher.

It was interesting to see SEO high on the list of topics—we work SEO into a lot of the services we already provide, but I like knowing that people are interested in that as a specific topic on its own!

Building audience and engagement were the top two online marketing steps our subscribers were interested in, and they are really important! But they’re most effective after you’ve finished all the other steps—building your platform, plan, and consistency. We couldn’t tell from the survey whether the answer we got was because people had already moved on to the last two steps, or if they were trying to jump the gun and skip to those before doing the others. I’m curious either way.

It made sense to me that the a lot of people preferred videos as their main form of communication. I like learning things from YouTube because you get to see how someone does whatever you’re learning about, and you can get commentary about what works and what doesn’t. It’s also just nice to know that we can reasonably expect our videos and the videos we’re working on for some of our clients to gain a good amount of traction!

So, we’re taking the results of people’s preferred form of communication with a grain of salt—email newsletter was the number one result in that category, but the survey was sent out exclusively via email. So that may not be representative.

I loved seeing that people were decently interested in learning about writing and quite interested in learning about blogging—although that gives me more questions than answers! I’d love to know what specifically about blogging people are curious about!

Branding: the burning question. Branding was ranked higher in the topics our subscribers were interested in than logos, design, graphics, and website…which all tend to contribute to branding. I’m a little confused! But I’m curious about what part about branding we should focus on sharing for our loyal subscribers.

If you voted for branding, help a girl out! What do you want to know about it?

Tuan Pham

Well, I mean I guess the obvious answer is that I liked that our subscribers showed videos some love! Since I’m the videographer here.

Wait, do people even know that I’m here? I’m here, guys!

Amanda Duncan

So here’s my thought on the whole branding question: maybe our subscribers want to know about more big-picture branding concepts? Like how to make sure their branding reaches the right kind of people?

From the office as a whole, here’s our general agreement: we are so grateful to have the information we have from our survey, but it’s raised even more questions for us! Now that we have a better idea of what our audience (yes, you!) is looking for, we’re tweaking our own marketing and information to make sure we give you more of what you’re interested in.

Have any additional feedback? We’d love to hear it in the comments, or feel free to email us at info@tandsgo.com!
