Why we volunteer

We all know that volunteering is a decent thing to do with your free time, but why do we carve out time to do so as a team here at T&S?

We started volunteering as a group very early on and have learned so much in that time. We love learning about the organizations that matter to our teammates and clients, as well as investing in our community. But what made us start doing that in the first place?

Our values demand it

Our values are:

  • Teamwork
  • Relationships
  • Balance
  • Expertise
  • Passion
  • Gratitude

Every organization has core values, but not everyone actually applies them or proactively fulfills them. When we sat down and clarified them together, we knew it was something we wanted to practice, not just preach. That is why we made the choice to volunteer as a team bi-monthly to retain our focus on Relationships and Gratitude.

Are we perfect at it? Probably not. But we believe the consistent effort is more important than perfection.

We aren’t hoarders

We know that our team’s skills are good for more than just running a marketing agency. To hoard our unique talents and gifts would be a shame. If we want to see the world become a better place, we have to take responsibility toward that goal. For the T&S team, that means we have to take a break from our work to serve our community every once in a while.

If people are truly more important than profit, we have to put our money (and time!) where our mouth is.

We enjoy it!

Our T&S team has a good time everywhere we go, but we really love the time we spend together serving our community. I remember when we met a family that was just as obsessed with Superman as Tim (I didn’t even think this was possible!) and now we look forward to seeing them. (Shout-out to the Bairds!)

We have made some great memories working alongside each other. While the more philosophical reasons are important, having fun is pretty great.

One of my favorite causes

If you want to start volunteering and happen to live in the Edmond area, this nonprofit has been great to work with.

U R Special Inc. exists to foster self-esteem and healthy lifestyles in needy and at-risk children. They do so by providing new, one-of-a-kind outfits of clothing for the children of Edmond, Oklahoma, and distributing it to them in ways that are celebratory, interactive, and affirming.

You can find more information and volunteer opportunities on their website.
