In general, businesses and nonprofits need to have a social media presence, and Facebook is typically a great place to start. Facebook offers different types of profiles and pages to meet everyone’s needs, allowing businesses to drive traffic, increase click rates, promote engagement, set a trustworthy foundation with clients or customers, and even increase sales.
According to Facebook, over 2 billion people in the world use the social media platform. They also did a recent survey and found that 2 out of 3 Facebook users across all countries visit a local business page at least once a week. Creating a business page has so many different benefits, even for small, local businesses.
And guess what? It’s free! Well, sort of.
What do I need for a Facebook business page?
Here are a few things you will need to create your Facebook business page. Once the page is created, explore, experiment, and have fun!
- Business name and description: This is an obvious one, but you’ll definitely need an intriguing description in the About section to draw people in. It should be clear and concise, leaving no unanswered questions about what your business is or does.
- Profile and cover photo: You’ll need to choose images that best represent your business. Many businesses use their logo as the profile picture, which is typically what we recommend.
- Clear call to action: This is something you should take advantage of. At the top of the page, you can direct visitors to your website, other social platforms, and more. Doing so will drive traffic across multiple platforms that your business is on.
- Category: Facebook lets you add up to three categories, and this helps people understand what type of business or nonprofit you run.
Facebook advertising tools
While Facebook business pages are free, there are helpful advertising tools you can use that are pay-to-play. In other words, those have an investment attached to them. But it doesn’t have to break the bank, and it can be beneficial to your organization. While those tools are not absolutely required to be successful on Facebook, it’s amazing the difference even a small investment can make.
- Paid advertisements: If you’ve ever scrolled through a Facebook feed, chances are you have come across an ad. It typically has “sponsored” above the ad itself. It’s a useful tool in capturing your audience’s attention and driving traffic to your page.
- Boosted posts: When you make a Facebook post, you can pay to have it boosted. For example, if you’re hosting an event or running a sale on a product, you can pay to “boost” it, which allows it show up more than once on your selected audience’s feed.
- Promoted page: This is essentially the same concept as an advertisement or boosted post, except it’s specifically targeted to your business page.
Facebook gives businesses the freedom to do whatever works for them. You can choose to spend money on extra tools to help your business, but it’s not required. Your business has the ability to thrive without extra expenses as long as you use Facebook wisely by being consistent, posting content, engaging with your audience, and more.
