Some people want to avoid being caught on film at all costs. I get it! Being a video star isn’t for everyone. It can definitely be stressful and intimidating, especially if it’s way outside your comfort zone.

Thankfully, there are options for utilizing video in your organization without actually being the star of those videos.

Other video options

Let’s take a look at some of the options out there. You’ll want to make sure that whatever option you go with still accomplishes your marketing goals.

  • Screen capture videos: Take recordings of your screen and use that for an explanatory video.
  • Animated explainer videos: These are those videos that look like simple cartoons and explain your business, a product, or a service.
  • Presentations with voiceovers: If you have an excellent presentation (Powerpoint, Keynote, etc.), you can take that and turn it into a video by adding a voiceover.
  • Whiteboard animation video: A alternate form of an explainer video, these usually have someone drawing illustrations on a whiteboard with a voiceover. They’re typically computer-generated, not on an actual whiteboard.
  • Canva: This online design tool will let you create simple animations.

If you’re a DIYer, there is software you can invest in, including options like Powtoon, Animaker, Toonly, and more.

Of course, you can also just have someone else be your on-screen talent. You can hire a professional actor or have someone from your team do it. For most videos, some form of humanization is a good idea.

Maybe I should be on camera

Going outside and being on camera is usually the best option despite your discomfort. It’s often less expensive than those other options, and it helps people trust you and your organization more.

Letting potential customers know there are real people behind your organization communicates that you’re more than just a (hopefully) snazzy logo. You’re human, and that makes the connection feel more personal. Being on camera can be scary, but that’s okay! We (and potential customers) want to see your beautiful face!

But if you’re hesitant, don’t let that stop you. Start with one of the other video options.
