How nonprofits can use Google

One of the things I enjoy about working here at T&S is that we work with a lot of nonprofits. One way we help nonprofits is by letting them know some of the services Google has that they may want to take advantage of, often with special nonprofit pricing.

Here are a few of the most common ways nonprofits can use Google.

1. Google Workspace

Previously known as G Suite and even earlier as Google Apps, Google Workspace is a suite of applications including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Meet. Many businesses use this—including our team—so you should consider it! It allows you to connect, save and share important documents, track events and meetings, and more.

While the “normal” version of Google Suite simply changed to Google Workspace, there is currently no nonprofit-specific version of Google Workspace. As of this writing, they still offer G Suite for Nonprofits, along with a free option. Their official claim is that Google Workspace is coming soon to nonprofits.

2. Google Ads Grants

While not a grant in the traditional sense where you literally get money, Google offers online advertising credits for nonprofits through its Google Ad Grants program. If Google Ads makes sense for your nonprofit, then Google Ad Grants may be worth looking into.

Qualifying nonprofits get up to $10,000 each month of in-kind advertising through Google Ads. Note that you need to have a high-quality website that meets the Ad Grants website policy. Hmm, I wonder who can help you with that? (Hint: it’s us!)

3. Organic SEO

Obviously, you want your nonprofit to show up in Google’s results when people search for your organization or words and phrases related to your mission. To appear in those results, you have to work on your SEO. You can do this on your website and through other avenues as well.

4. Google My Business

Google My Business is a tool that helps you manage your listing on Google Maps, the directory listing that shows up in Google results, and other places across Google. You can fill in information about your nonprofit and encourage people to leave reviews. Google My Business is part of a healthy local SEO presence.

As mentioned, some of these are services we can help with. But you can also feel free to take advantage of any of them yourself. Which one will you try out?
