Ever looked at someone’s email signature and wonder how they linked to their business’s social media page? Fortunately, if you use Gmail or Gsuite for your email, that’s practically built in! You can easily link to your Facebook profile, your Facebook Page, or any other social media platform you have a presence on.

Should I add a Facebook link to my email signature?

Before we get into the instructions, should you even be concerned with adding a Facebook link to your signature? Great question! If Facebook is a priority for your business, then you should definitely consider it.

Your email signature is sort of like a miniature, personalized version of the contact page on your website. You can customize it in a variety of ways, just remember to keep it simple so it doesn’t feel overwhelming to people.

Okay, let’s get into the actual steps to get that link in there!

Step 1 – Grab the Facebook URL

The first thing you’ll need to do is log into Facebook and either visit your profile or your organization’s page. Note that your own profile is not what you see when you log in. Rather, it’s what you see when you click on your name in a couple different places. For example, mine looks like this:

Or if you’re getting your company page URL, it would look something like this:

Step 2 – Go to Gmail settings

Next, log into Gmail. The desktop version is the easiest place to do this. On the top right, click on the Settings gear icon, then “See all settings.”

Step 3 – Find your signature

You should end up on the “General” tab. Scroll down until you see the “Signature” section. Most likely, it’s right under your picture, about halfway down the page. Click inside the text box to edit your signature, and position the cursor where you want the link to appear.

Step 4 – Add your Facebook link

The button to insert a link looks like a little chain. If you hover over it, it will likely say “Link.” Click on that button, then in the “Edit Link” pop-up, paste the link you copied in Step 1 into the “Web address” field. In the “Text to display” field put something like “Facebook” or “Connect on Facebook.”

Click on the OK button to close the pop-up.

Step 5 – Save your signature

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the “Save Changes” button to save your new Gmail signature.

That’s it! You might want to send yourself an email to see how your new signature actually looks. If you want to customize things further, in Step 4 you can also make some of the text bold, change the color, change the font size, and so on. Again, don’t go crazy with the design. Clean and simple is the most professional looking option!
