Why we use BackupBuddy for WordPress backups

Regardless of what system your website is running on, one of the basic security measures you should be taking is backing it up on a regular basis. That way, if anything happens, you’ll always have a backup you can revert to.

So if you use WordPress, what backup solution should you go with?

While there are a lot to choose from, we like BackupBuddy from iThemes. Here are our top three reasons why.

1. Support is great

We have pretty good results on a consistent basis from BackupBuddy. Granted, most of our clients are in the same hosting environment, so we don’t have to deal with too many variables.

But in the rare cases where we have had to reach out to BackupBuddy’s support team, they’ve provided great support.

2. The process is easy

We make around 200 to 300 backups each month. We restore—including website migrations and development copies—around 20 to 30 a month. So if the process of making the backup or restoring it were painful, we would know.

I’m not saying it can’t be painful for certain environments, but it tends to be an easy, smooth process for us.

3. I know the guys

It doesn’t hurt that the iThemes team is based out of the OKC metro area. In fact, I’ve been to their office many times over the years, and they’re only about a 10-minute drive from the T&S office.

While I don’t know everyone on their team, I know their CEO, Corey Miller, and some other key personnel. I have a lot of respect for the team and what they’re doing over there. I also know that if push comes to shove, I can reach out directly to them.

Listen, I don’t know if BackupBuddy is the right solution for you. But those three reasons, combined with all the features the plugin boasts, has made it a great choice for my team since 2011.
