Skittish about WordPress?

Some people have no problem with new technology. But if you’re anything like me, you may have been a bit apprehensive about learning a new system to update your website. Gosh, I didn’t like WordPress at first, but only because I didn’t know what I was doing.

One of my jobs here at T&S is to schedule blogs for clients. Our writers come up with them, we edit them, then I personally schedule them. Now I can do it in three minutes. But it sure wasn’t that way at first.

I watched some of our WordPress training videos, but not all of them. I didn’t need them all, and let’s face it, I hear Tim talk enough at work and at home that I don’t need to watch him on YouTube, too.

One of my favorite things now is that you can’t really screw up royally. There’s always some way to recover if you mess up. Even if I end up just scrapping the blog article and starting over, it’s not the end of the world. And we also back up all our sites on a regular basis, so recovery is always possible.

I also like how easy images are to upload. Then once you upload an image, you can use that as your featured image, assuming your website uses featured images. And if you accidentally put an image in the wrong place, it’s easy to say “Oops!” and move it. I know I’ve put my cursor in the wrong place more than once and had to move an image.

I also like that if you have Jetpack set up, you can also schedule a tweet, Facebook update, or LinkedIn update to go out when the blog goes live.

So if you’ve been at all skittish about updating your own website with WordPress, let me assure you that it gets way easier as you go on. It’s really like using a word processor. You just have to get used to the interface. Remember, our WordPress training videos are there to help, and you can always schedule a session with one of our staff.
