Picking out the right font for a project can be a difficult task, and if you have as many fonts as I do on your computer, it can also be very time-consuming. That’s where my new favorite typography tool, wordmark.it, comes in handy.

How It Works

Wordmark.it is a web-based service that will detect all of the fonts installed on your computer, and render sample text in all those fonts.

You can adjust what the sample text is, what size you want that sample text to be, drag and sort each sample, and even adjust the letter spacing, all right on the website.

Finally, once you’ve decided that you love the fonts you have selected, you can sign up for an account to save your selection.

This, in particular, is one of the features I am most excited about because it will allow you to group fonts however you want. Want to save a selection of all your awesome handwritten fonts? Need a way to group together all your retro 8-bit fonts? With this tool, you can group your fonts however you please!

Compatibility

So far this tool has worked on both my PC and my Mac, on Google Chrome. Their instructions say that the font rendering relies on the browser’s capabilities, so it’s a good idea to use the most up-to-date version of your browser.

Although this tool does work on iPhone and iPad, it does not work on Android devices.

Have a typography tool that you can’t live without? Feel free to share!
