How to increase the visibility of LinkedIn posts

Let’s get this out of the way first: I’m not a LinkedIn expert. But as it turns out, LinkedIn rewards something I am passionate about—good writing.

Whether you’re posting thought leadership, team updates, or industry insights, clear and readable content gives your post a better shot at being seen, understood, and acted on. And I can help with that.

Here are 10 quick editing tips to improve how your LinkedIn posts show up—for readers and the algorithm.

1. Start strong

Your first line matters. LinkedIn cuts off longer posts with a “…see more,” so lead with a short, clear, attention-grabbing line—no throat-clearing.

2. Make it scannable

Nobody reads a wall of text. When appropriate, break up longer posts with paragraph breaks, line spacing, and bullet points.

Example:

  • Use bullets for lists
  • Use numbers for steps
  • Use line breaks between thoughts

You can also use emojis (sparingly) as bullets—checkmarks, stars, or lightbulbs can add visual cues without being cute. Otherwise, use dashes since LinkedIn technically doesn’t support bullets.

3. Keep paragraphs short

One to two sentences per paragraph is plenty. It’s easier to read on mobile and helps you pace your thoughts when skimming.

4. Cut the filler

Phrases like “just wanted to hop on here and share” or “I don’t normally post this, but…” waste valuable space. Start with your actual point.

5. Use everyday language

LinkedIn is still a social platform, even if your work is technical or specialized. Where possible, favor plainspoken words over jargon.

6. Write like you talk—then edit for clarity

It’s okay to draft casually. But before you post, read it back and tighten anything that feels rambling or vague.

There’s a difference between sounding human and sounding unedited.

7. Use line spacing strategically

White space isn’t just about aesthetics—it helps people stay on your post. Use extra line breaks to group ideas and create rhythm.

8. End with an invitation

LinkedIn favors engagement. Ask a question or encourage people to weigh in. The more comments your post gets, the more people see it.

9. Be thoughtful with tags

Only tag people who are directly relevant to the post. If they’re not part of the story or conversation, leave them out.

10. Proofread

Obvious, yes. But typos and unclear phrasing can hurt credibility—and the algorithm does notice. If you need help, tools like Grammarly are handy. So is a second set of human eyes.

Writing matters more than you think

You don’t have to be a social media expert to improve your visibility. You just need to write like a human—and edit like one, too.
